Salerno 2010 (IT)
Meet European cities with an appetite for change from 28-30 April 2010 in Salerno!
"Inventing tomorrow: city life in transition"
The challenge of European cities is to invent today a tomorrow where quality of life goes hand in hand with low energy consumption. A thousand local authorities are already preparing their
futures by committing to the Covenant of Mayors. In defiance of financial and economic pressures, they are changing the direction of their energy policies – with foresight, cooperation and
imagination!
Energie-Cités has witnessed and actively fosters this transition.
To celebrate our 20th Anniversary, we invite you to debate the following:
• Perceptions and indicators of quality of life
• Local energy policies ensuring a better quality of life
• Visions for a low energy city for 2020-2050
Participate in panel discussions as well as in our interactive forums and pick from a bunch of ideas on desirable ways of planning, consuming and living in cities.

ENERGY PLANNING FOR SMART CITIES
You are invited to attend a workshop and seminar on Energy Planning for
Smart Cities - Wednesday 2nd June, Eurocities building, Brussels.
Date: Wednesday 2nd June 2010
Time: 10am-5pm
Location: Eurocities Office, Brussels
Free Event
Cities are key to how our urban economies respond to the challenges of climate change. As places where we live, work, and visit they are the central hubs for much human activity. Urban
environments face a number of challenges over the next few years: the need to upgrade 20th century infrastructure; improving the energy efficiency of homes and public buildings; managing
the collection and dispersal of waste; reducing the
reliance on carbon for individuals and businesses.
Since the 1970s Sweden has developed experience and expertise in Energy Planning. Over the last two years, experts from the city of Malmo and the Swedish Energy Authority have provided workshops,
study visits, case studies and mentoring for municipalities in the UK, Italy, Greece, Poland and Spain as part of the PEPESEC project. Each of the cities involved has used this
experience in planning Sustainable Energy Communities to develop their own energy plans.
This event provides an opportunity for anyone involved in energy planning in their municipality, and interested in how energy planning can contribute to the smart cities fo the future, to find
out more.
